Air pollution

Essay by : Neidy Andrea Beltrán

Air pollution

In recent years, Bogotá, being the capital of Colombia, has become one of the most

important cities in the country, therefore in the most populated with nearly eight million of

habitants.

Turning it into a city in total expansion and growth

not only at a territorial level, its

commerce, its industry and traffic have also been increased, giving results that it is one of the

cities with the most pollution in Latin America followed by cities such as Mexico City and Lima

among others.

This environmental pollution is generated by the number of companies, and urban

transport, have been raised several solutions, including the construction of the metro that would

gradually reduce urban transport in the city, but I think that, although this is a possible solution

would take more of 5 years to see a positive change.

The severe consequences of the air we breathe on a daily basis see it more reflected by

small children because they are the ones who present symptoms such as burning eyes, bronchitis,

cough, headache, and many more, which can sometimes become terminally ill.

I believe that to improve this great problem what we should do as citizens is to try to help

our Bogota from our homes, but how can we do it?

• Avoid using the car when it is not necessary

• Perform preventive maintenance on elements such as stoves, cars

• Avoid burning papers, or elements that generate a toxic air

• Avoid smoking

With these practices, we make a great contribution to the environment of our city, which,

although minimal among all of us, generates a great change.

The city belongs to everyone and we cannot just wait for others to do something to solve it, each

one of us must contribute so that our city is a pleasant and healthy place in which we can live.
