Insecurity and crime

Bogota is the biggest city of Colombia, and currently this city can be taken in to account as a metropolis, this is due to the different kinds of cultures that here come together and interact; also, because here people have many and different opportunities to progress and get ahead; besides of many activities and places to enjoy. But despite of this, Bogota presents high levels of insecurity and criminality, these factors affect the tranquility of Bogota citizens; people feel that responsible entities don’t meet with their role as protectors.
Although, several statements given by different government entities where show that Bogota is not a dangerous city, the security perception of the citizens is completely different; Bogota citizens think is so different what they witness day by day. There are several sorts of crimes in which we can identify: mugging, sexual assaults, murder amount others; considering this, people confess that at least one member of their families have been victims of any of these situations, for this reason is that Bogotanos think Bogota is not so safe than government entities pretend to show.
In a survey carried out by the Bogota chamber of commerce (survey of perception and victimization); we find that 12.6% of polled people have been affected directly by any of the crimes above mentioned, whereas a 25.5% have had a family member affected by any of these crimes, putting the victimization of the citizens in a 38%; in this survey it is evidence that people
express that in Bogota is focused the violence in a higher percentage in specific sectors of the city, such Usaquen, Santa fe, and tunjuelito; this survey was conducted to a 9.5 million of people from Bogota
As it can evidence in the above information, Bogota presents higher levels of criminality dispersed over the different localities of Bogota; we can identify how the insecurity is not only a perception issue but is a real fact considering the results obtained in the (survey of perception and victimization); this results show that the criminality is a real issue that needs the appropriate attention of the government entities, in order to reduce not only the perception but the real situation of criminality and insecurity.
Th insecurity in Bogota is a situation that can affect the tranquility of the Bogotanos; all the Bogotanos must be attentive to their environment in order to avoid and reduce the probabilities of being victims of any offender; so, we can affirm that Bogota has real problems of insecurity and people is habituated to live with this situation.
